Transformative Education
for Health Professionals

Welcome to our blog section and social media community !

Welcome to our blog section and social media community ! which is dedicated to making an active and substantial contribution to the effective implementation of the WHO guidelines on transforming and scaling up of health professionals’ education and training.

So what’s coming up over the next 3 months ? three major activities will be;

1. WHO co-hosted sessions at the Prince Mahidol Award Conference in Bangkok, Jan 2014

We have a series of social media activities, which are supporting the WHO co-hosted sessions at the Prince Mahidol Award Conference in Bangkok, Jan 2014.

  • blog interviews with the chairs and speakers of the WHO co-hosted sessions;
  • featured videos, where speakers can profile and describe their work and projects.

A schedule will be posted at the end of the week – for more details see the posts on the WHO guidelines social media community and WHO co-hosted sessions at the Prince Mahidol Award Conference.

2. Expanding and adapting the 2006 WHO ‘pipeline’ concept to generate and recruit the health workforce / best practice, best buys concept

WHO is reframing the discourse and improving the conceptual framework around the 2006 WHO ‘pipeline’ concept to generate and recruit the health workforce. The expanded 2013 pipeline has been adapted and contextualized within the post 2015 development agenda, with universal health coverage a key outcome of health workforce strengthening.

It recognizes the increasing importance of information, communication technology in supporting health systems and the need for a social determinants approach to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities.

How to engage everyone in the implementation process ? ‘best practices-best buys’ alongside country experiences will form a menu of options that aims to inform and guide the implementation process using the expanded 2013 pipeline as the framework.

We will be posting more about the expanded 2013 pipeline and ‘best practices-best buys’ over the coming weeks.

3. The Social Determinants of Health Approach; Looking beyond health, broadening perspectives

A big focus of our social media action will be around the social determinants of health.

We will have interviews with some of the key global actors and experts, as well as details of an innovative ICT / e-learning project.

So. looking forward to seeing you in our twitter, facebookyou tube and shortly LinkedIn....

best, julian
