Patient University

Marie-Luise Dierks

The patient-university was started to provide a comprehensive set of activities to increase health literacy both among healthy and diseased people. The concept rests on interactive provision of evidence-based medicine, in particular via practicing individual skills at various “learning stations”. It includes activities towards improving health-based knowledge, communication with professionals and health-promoting behavior.

Its mission is thus to provide the general public with self-management skills in health and health care such as communication skills to interact with healthcare

professionals rather than solely and passively educating about certain disease

aspects.
